What Is A Blast Crisis?

Re specifically to CML: What does a "blast crisis" actually look like? What will the person actually die from? Do both myeloid and lymphoid crises look the same? (please be honest--this isn't personal. i am a hospice nurse now in graduate school and i can't find the answer on-line) thank-you.

Hematologist 's  Response
Hi, dear.
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Blast crisis in CML suggest there are more than 20% blast cell in peripherals smear or bone marrow.
It can be myeloid or lymphoid.
However In 70% of cases it is myeloid blast crisis. In 20 to 30% cases it is lymphoid blast crisis.
Prognosis is poor just like acute leukemia.
Lymphoid crisis respond slightly better to the chemotherapy.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
