There is a lot of truth to most of these Responses, however you must be warry of those misinformed or under educated. I'm a pharmacist and the first thing that must be addressed is the low pulse. A pulse that is 42 is much too low (unless you are a world class athlete). Are you tired, dizzy, light headed, etc? Are you urinating normally? There are many bad consequences that can occur from too low of blood pressure, most likely the above previously stated lightheadedness, dizzyness, tiredness. Those don't pose any immediate threat unless they are pronounced, but kidney problems, stroke, or ever heart attacks may occur if blood pressure gets too low and with such a low pulse that is certainly possible. As you can see this could be very serious and requires immediate attention. your primary physician is completely qualified to prescribe beta blockers (ie Tenormin) As for the poster who inferred you must see a cardiologist to prescribe these drugs is completely wrong. The majority of Hypertensive patients are treated by primary physicians and beta blockers are most likely one of their first choices. However in your case a beta blocker may not be the best choice for you. Make an appt. immediately if your pulse is consistently under 50. Anywhere between 60 and 100 is considered to be normal as long as you are not symptomatic. Don't let these posts scare you and cause you to completely stop taking the drug, that can cause a rebound hypertensive effect and could lead to a dangerously high pulse. If yar are suffering from some of the symptoms above you may try taking less, for example take 1/2 tablet until you can meet up with your MD. If things get worse you should seek immediate medical attention. I hope this helps. let me know if I could be of more assistance.

Several month ago, I wore a heart monitor because my heart was skipping beats regularly which caused me to be sluggish as well as out of breath. I was told I was being tested for brutacardia (sp). After the doctor reviewed the test, a nurse called me back and said everything was alright. I knew it wasn t because I knew how it was making me feel. I ended up wearing it twice more, the last time being for 48 hours. Again, I got a call and was told that everything was normal. I gave up. When I went to my regular doctor a couple weeks later, I talked to him about it. He pulled up the tests and saw that in a 48 hour period, my heart had skipped a beat more than ten thousand times! He said I would eventually need to have a pacemaker put in to regulate my heart beat. My question is, how bad do I need to get before a heart doctor is actually going to tell me what to look forward to. Also, would you recommend me going to a different heart doctor? Am I facing a heart attack? Please help. Patty Galloway

How can you tell the difference between heart burn and heart problems ? I get what feels like heart burn sometimes. But I am worried it might be more. How can i tell if it is heart burn, or a heart problem ? They seem very similar with their symtpoms, so what symptoms help seperate them?

Hello, this happened around 4 days ago. I just got done eating at night and went to bed and suddenly I could feel my heart beating hard and rapidly around 130bpm. I thought it was a panic attack so I took a xanax and just waited it out but it still kept beating. I had no pain anywhere and was able to walk around, use the restroom, etc. no problem. But it wouldn t stop beating rapidly. Eventually, I fell asleep, woke up, and felt fine. I take a shower, eat breakfast, and lay on my bed, and again it happens. I just ignore it because I don t feel any pain and eventually I dose off for a bit and it goes away again. Finally the next day, I eat lunch with my dad and some alcohol and felt fine. I decide to lay and watch some tv and next thing you know it happens again. Again no pain. I juss sleep it off again. I heard it might be acid reflux so I started taking mylanta and hasn t reoccured. But when I feel my pulse, it doesn t feel right. But I might be over paranoid about this. Help! I m worried they might be minor heart attacks. Does acid reflux cause rapid heartbeats? Can a rapid heartbeat = heart attack?? What are the symptoms you might have after having a heart attack? How can I know if I received heart damage w/o going to a doctor . I ve been to a doctor a few times, but each time I did tests, they came out fine and said it was a panic attack. But this was different because I did not feel scared. Juss had the symptom. Thanks so much. Any professional input would be greatly appreciated. By the way I m 26 years old Asian with no family history, smoked very moderately(3-4 a day) for around 5 years, but quit a year ago. Low body fat and everything else seems okay. I dont know what to think. Thank you. It s been around 4 days since it last happened and I feel okay and I ve never had this before. By the way, would there be a change in blood pressure (as in higher it or lower it) after a heart attack and if I received heart damage? And how would your pulse feel? My bp is the same as before. Thanks Bilbo but did his stop? I mean this was a 4 days ago when it happened and it hasn t happened since. And the amount of alcohol I drank was around a 16 oz. cup of beer.

I was hospitalized yesterday for very high bp (avg 190/115), did an ecg and had abnormal t-wave (inverted). They gave me a shot of nitro and iv injected beta blocker...a few hours later, bp returned to normal (128/82 avg). They released me, but I m going for a stress test in the next couple of days. Today my bp was high again this a.m., but is now averaging 90/60 or less, is this a sign of something serious going on, and should I get back to the hospital? I am a calm person, I d just rather be safe than sorry.

In the last few weeks, I have started having like a hot flash in my neck and checks; almost like I m blushing. I suffer with lack of energy, depression and anxiety (grieving loss of spouse of 30 years and mother) but this is a new situation. Currently being treated for high blood pressure with HCTZ in the morning and Norvasc at night. I take vitamin D (5,000 IU) daily along with CoQ10 and Xanax PRN. I m 64 and thought I had gone through menopause already. Could this be the anxiety/depression and if so, what supplement could I take to help. I have no insurance so medical testing is not an option at this time.
