General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic (ointment) commonly used to treat impetigo as well as other skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria like staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus pyogenes and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Based on the history you might be having infection caused by streptococcus pyogenes for which your doctor has prescribed Mupirocin.

Hope this answers your query.
