What is Flunarizine and how is Botox used for migraine treatment?
Migraine sufferer for 20+ years. Use imitrex at onset and topamax daily. Still not under control. What is Flunarizine? Doctors are also talking about botox as an option - how is that used for migraine treatment? Finally, I have been having sinus problems lately… can sinus headaches trigger migraine headaches?
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query. Flunarizine is a drug classified as a calcium channel blocker. Flunarizine is a non-selective calcium entry blocker with other actions including histamine H1 receptor blocking activity. It is effective in the prophylaxis of migraine. Botox has been approved by the FDA to treat chronic migraine headaches in adults.Patients with chronic migraine experience a headache more than 14 days of the month. Botox is given at intervals of about 12 weeks as multiple injections around the head and neck to try to dull future headache symptoms. Sinusitis can be one of the triggers of migraine. I shall be happy to answer more queries if you have. Take Care, Dr Noble Zachariah
