What Dosage Of Thyronorm Should Be Taken For Hypothyroidism?
My wife, aged 30 yrs, was diagnosed with Hypothroidism during her pregnancy. She was taking thronorm 75 mcg. After delivering, she continued her medication for 3 months and then decided to stop and get her thyroid checked. Her TSH is 6 so she has to restart her medication. Should she take 75 mcg or 50 mcg?
Welcome and thank you for using HCM! First of all i wanted to ask you if your wife is breastfeeding? If yes she should be monitored more closely because thyronorm goes to your baby by lactation and its level should be within the normal ranges. You didn't mention the weight of your wife, in general is recommended to start with 0.7 mcg/kg and after 6 weeks the TSH should be repeated to see if the dose is the right one. Despite the pathology, during pregnancy and breastfeeding is recommended to take iodine supplements too, in order to offer the baby the right amount of iodine that is very important for its thyroid function. Hope i have helped you somewhat with my advices.
Kind regards, Dr.M.Guni
