What Does Visible Vein On Neck Indicate?

Today a neck vein suddenly appeared very prominent on my neck in the front on the left side. It was apparent this morning, but is much darker this evening and I can see it extending further down towards my chest. I have no pain or discomfort. Should I have it checked?
