What Does Vaginal Spotting Before Periods Indicate?

I have had 4 days of light bleeding, more than spotting but much lighter than my periods, followed by 2 days of very minimal brown spotting. This started a week before my period was due. I took a pregnancy test today and it was negative. What is going on?

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Spotting or brownish discharge might be due to
- ovulation
- Implantation
- an outcome of your impending periods
- other causes too

I advice you to,
-  do serum beta HCG levels to rule out pregnancy
-  Diet rich in protein
- Take iron & calcium supplements.
- consult your gynaecologist for further assistance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
