What Does Tobacco Coloured Stool In A Toddler Indicate?

What would cause my toddlers still to look like tobacco!? I changed his diaper today and noticed what looked like tobacco so I thought maybe he got ahold of a cigarette and put it in his diaper but when I looked closer it was his stool. It s shades of goldish colors to even black and they look like short cut tobacco. I gave him a bath because wiping didn t work and it came off in the tub as flakes

Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor. I have read your query and here is my advice.
Black stool can be caused by:
-altered blood,
-iron,
-lead,
-charcoal,
-eating earth or coal

and gold or yellow color stool can be due to a liver infection causing yellow skin, urine, and stool.
There can be a variety of stool colors depending upon what the child puts in his mouth. As long as the abnormal color is temporary and toddler is other wise well, you need not be concerned.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.
