What Does This Ultrasound Scan Finding Indicate?

I missed my period, I went to urgent care they did a pregnancy test that was negative then they did blood test that was negative, the doctor then sent me to get an ultrasound , the ultrasound report came back with the impression of small corpus luteum cyst in the left ovary. What does this mean? am I pregnant? Does this rule out pregnancy ? is this cyst dangerous? what is the treatment?

Hi.

Thank you for the query.

A corpus luteum is nothing but a ruptured follicle, after the rupture of your egg.Usually during every menstrual cycle in a woman, multiple follicles (follicle is a small sac like structure carrying the ova or the egg inside it, in the ovaries) in the ovary grow, but only one follicle matures enough to rupture the egg inside it.Once the egg is ruptured out of the follicle, the follicle is now called the Corpus luteum. It slowly shrinks in its size and then disappears on its own.So there's nothing to be worried about. Its a normal cyst!

Since your urine pregnancy test is negative, you are not pregnant. You will get your periods in the coming days, within a week or so.

If you are trying to get pregnant, then you need to check your cycles, and you should try for intercourse from the 10th to 16th day of your cycles. ( Day1 considered as the first day of your period). This bieng the calender technique. If failing in it for more than 6 months, you should consult your gynecologist.

Hope this helped,
Thank you

Stay healthy.
