What Does This Ultrasound Result During Pregnancy Indicate?

I am 30 weeks pregnant. My latest obstetric ultrasound described this: right fetal kidney shows dilated pelvi-calyceal system and upper ureter with pelvis measuring 11mm in AP diameter... left fetal kidney also shows prominent pelvis measuring 5.5mm in AP diameter. And the rest is normal and no other anomalies detected.. do I need to worry?

Hi,

The report says there is mild enlargement/dilatation of ureter(tube carrying urine from kidneys to bladder). This happens when there is some obstruction in ureter. Significance of this finding, and any treatment required depends on findings of a repeat ultrasound done later in pregnancy, and after delivery. Often, this gets resolved spontaneously by the time of delivery. Progressive enlargement may need surgical correction, but very rarely.
