What Does This Ultrasound Report During Pregnancy Indicate?

Hi! I am 36 weeks preganant. Yesterday was my ultrasound to check duplex doppler and color doppler. Everything is normal except my placenta which is fundo anterior grade 3. I am a little worried after reading a bit online about grade 3 placenta. My doctor said nothing to worry but grade 3 placenta need to be monitored and asked to comeback after 15 days for ultrasound. Do I need to worry? My sugar level is normal (127), no BP, adequate AFI, EFW is 2571gm. please help.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Grannum et al in 1979 classified placental maturity into four grades 0 - III, based on the ultrasound appearances placenta.
Grading is based on the changes occurring in three zones of placenta: chorionic plate, placental substance and basal layer, as the pregnancy advances.
Grade - 3 is the late phase represents the mature placenta. Since you are nearing term, it can be interpreted as normal. Hence you need not worry.
Your sugar level of 127mg% is also normal, Amniotic fluid index is adequate and fetal weight is also good at about 2.5 kgs.
Kindly get another scan after 2 weeks as advised to monitor the progress.
Hope the information provided is clear.
All the best.
