What Does This Test Result From MRI Indicate?

If I have a MRI scan showing the medial sustentaculum process of the talus is projecting inferiorly with an abnormal articulation with calcaneum. this is a vertical articulation with marked cystic change involving the subarticular portion of the calcaneum. Does this mean thay it needs an operation to fix.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the issue of abnormal articulation of talus with calcaneum and cystic changes do indicate possible problem with formation of Bursa cyst from chronic inflammation most likely.
* Depending upon the clinical presentation and severity of the condition, various options are available for its management. Conservative therapy with:
- Local application of heating pad
- Wax bath and ultrasonic therapy with rays
- Assisted physiotherapy
- Supportive boot and other ortho devices
- Intra articular shots of steroids or kenacort

Surgical approach is curative with possible bursa cyst excision, osteotomy or other as per the need.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
