What Does This Liver Function Test Result Indicate?
Hi my BIlirubin (Direct) is 0.20 mg/dl in comparison upto 0.4 mg/dl.ALT is 96 U/L in comparision to (5-40 range) & AST is 43 in comparison to (5-40 range), I am a non alcoholic and non smoker. age 28.is it a serious condition? Kindly give me further recommendations about food diet.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. The following inferences can be drawn based on the liver function test report you have enclosed. 1. Direct bilirubin of 0.2 mg/dl is normal. 2. ALT level with 96 U/L shows about 3 fold increase than the normal. 3. AST level with 43 U/L shows a marginal increase above normal. This indicates that there is hepatocellular damage occurring to some extent. Since you say you are non-smoker and non-alcoholic, the cause could be due to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or drug induced. Kindly get an ultrasound abdomen done to explore what could be the underlying cause. Kindly consult Physician with the reports for clinical evaluation and management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
