What Does This Karyotype Reading Signify?
I am looking for a good resource for karyotype reading. I have a family member with a 46, XX, 5q-, r (7) [10] kayotype. The first part is easy (46 chromosomes, female, short arm deletion) but the r(7) [10] I don t understand yet. Is the r related to R or G banding on chromosome number 7? What is the [10]? something associated with chromosome number 7 or is it talking about chromosome 10? Thanks for your help!

this karyotype is interpreted in the following way :
46 XX : female with 46 chromosomes
5q- : loss of the long arm of chromosome 5 , not the short arm
r (7) : ring chromosome 7
[10] : means these results are found in 10 metaphaseal cells that where examined .
