What Does This Fasting Blood Sugar Level Of 118 Indicate?

Why is it said that if fasting blood sugar is 118 that you are pre-diabetic. It is within that range? Also, I believe I was insulin resistance. I went on a low carb diet 4 months, Would that reset my blood sugar and insulin problem? I had sympt. of insulin resistance and also am hypothyroid which I take meds for.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for contacting healthcare magic.
Fasting blood sugar of 118mg/dl falls in pre-diabetic range. It should be below 110mg/dl. Decreased intake of refined sugars can help you avoid diabetes. Besides this, walk regularly, keep your BMI in normal range. Eat healthy foods. Avoid junk foods. It will delay the onset of diabetes. Continue taking medicine for your thyroid problem as advised by your treating physician. I hope, you are satisfied by my answer.
