What Does This Bone Marrow Biopsy Report Indicate?

My bone marrow biopsy showed erythroid hyperplasia associated with red cell stippling and agglutination. The differential diagnosis includes autoimmune haemolytic anaemia and less likely myelodysplasia, while haemolytic markers are negative. My bilirubin test is high. My doctor gave me Prednizone. Is this the right medication for this sickness, thanks Do I have to pay for this? thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

That's a good question. Prednisone (steroid medication, as you may know) usually helps in suppressing the immune system and thereby controlling multiplication of immune cells responsible for possible autoimmune hemolytic anemia and myelodysplasia.

I would recommend taking the prednisone if a similar patient comes to my clinic. However, it is important to go for regular follow up visits and get tested to monitor the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Divya Teja Pasupuleti, General & Family Physician
