What Does This WBC Count In An Infant Having High Fever Indicate?
My 14 months granddaughter has had a fever 103. for 4 days, white cell count is 17.2. Negative strep, uti. Not throwing up or diahhrea. Doctor doesn t seem overly concerned. I want to take her to Childrens Hospital with a copy of the blood work.Am I right?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your grand daughter have symptoms of high fever and increase in W.B.C count which seems to be due to viral or bacterial infection of body due to poor immunity of body. It could be due to urinary tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit pediatrician once and get it examined. You should get blood tests redone and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Give child proper rest. Take diet rich in fresh juices and fruits. You should take anti-allergic medication along with proper course of antibiotic along with Ibuprofen. Do tepid sponging as well to lower down fever. Drink plenty of water and fluids.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
