What Does This TSH Level During 1st Trimester Of Pregnancy Indicate?

Hello doc, I am 7 weeks pregnant and 36 years old. I have had 2 miscarriages previously. My blood report says my TSH level is 3.5 while the preferred is 2.5 in the first trimester. My doc suggested that the level is still ok and we will follow it up during the 11 week scan. Please suggest.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Thyroid disorders needs to be treated during pregnancy for an healthy outcome of both mother and baby.
Thyroid hormone is also essential for a baby to develop normally during pregnancy.
The normal range during the 1st trimester of pregnancy should be 0.6 - 3.4      µIU/mL. It seems to be borderline high in your case.
The normal range for 2nd trimester should be 0.6 - 3.6 µIU/mL and third trimester should be 0.38 - 4.04 µIU/mL.
Kindly get it checked towards the end of first trimester as advised. In case it is high, appropriate treatment can be instituted to overcome it.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
