What Does This MRI Report Of Brain Mean?

A brain MRI has revealed mild diffuse parenchymal volume loss and trace mucosal thickening in the ethmoid air cells. Also, the combined inferior lateral ventricle volume of 1.54 cc corresponds to a less than fifth percentile for age-matched controls. I am a 67 year old male with mild memory loss. Can you tell me what the findings mean and how I might improve things without surgery?

Hello

Findings suggests mild age related cerebral cortical atrophy.
This is expected finding in every person with aging.
With aging, there is loss of cerebral parenchyma which causes shrinkage of brain and it allows C.S.F spaces and ventricles to expand.

However, cerebral atrophy may be early seen in brain insult due to infection, hypoxia, trauma etc.

You may need medicines like cholinesterase inhibitors(donepezil etc)for memory loss.
You can also seek neurologist opinion.
This condition doesn't need surgery,so don't worry about this.

Trace mucosal thickening in ethmoid air cells may be due to sinusitis.

Get well soon.
Take Care
