What Does This MRI Report For Ear Pain Indicate?

I have had two separate MRIs. One was for the temporal bones while the other was of the cervical spine. Both scans indicate left mastoid air cell disease. My initial problems started with ear infection for which ENT indicated ears are fine. I continue to have both ringing and pain in the ears for the last three months. What do you make of the reference to left mastoid and how would you proceed? Thanks

Hi,

The scans are suggestive of ear infection, which most probably has spread to mastoid region (located behind the ears).

Initial treatment would be with antibiotics. If it does not improve, a surgery, a mastoidectomy may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
