What Does This HIV Test Report Indicate?

Hi Idoctor Am Sharif.I did HIV test from aLAB.I got report like this. Sample : WHOLE BLOOD Method : Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Test Description : Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1 (HIV-1) - Proviral DNA (Qualitative) Results : NOT DETECTED Interpretation: Detection Limit: 50 copies /ml In the note u said that NOT DETECTED means result indicates either absence of HIV-1 Proviral DNA in patients specimen or HIV- 1 Proviral DNA level is below the lower detection limit of this assay. MY friend ,LAB technician said U DID HAVE HIV IN UR BLOOD . I some confused the description u given about NOT DETECTED. I DID SEX WITH A GIRL ON 10th SEP AT AROUND 10 PM TO 12PM WITHOUT CONDOM .WHEN I GET SOME DOUBT I ASKED MY FRIEND WHO IS LAB TECHNICIAN ABOUT HIV TEST.HE SAID THAT NO NEED TO WAIT 6 MONTHS FOR THE TEST.THERE IS ADVANCE TECHNOLOGY WHICH CAN DETECT THE VIRUS AFTER 3 OR 4 DAYS FROM THE SEX DATE.BUT MAY COSTLY . THEN I GIVE SAMPLE ON 16th SEP (5 DAYS AFTER SEX). AND GOT RESULTS NOT DETECTED ON 20TH SEP. CAN U PLEASE EXPLAIN THAT I HAVE HIV OR NOT. THANKING YOU.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
From the result, we can not say yet if you have it.The detection limit of your lab is 50copies/ml.In other labs, it my be as low as 20copies/ml.However, the clinical implications of a viral load -very low plasma HIV-1 viral load present (eg, in the range of 1-49 copies/mL)
-very early HIV-1 infection (ie, less than 3 weeks from time of infection). In your case, your speciment was collected too early.
-absence of HIV-1 infection
I will suggest you take the test again.By now, if you are infected, it will be detectable.Only another test may help to reveal your stutus.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
