What Does The Renal Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Had a renal us done the other day that said: There is generalized renal cortical thinning bilaterally. There is increased echogenicity in the renal cortex of both kidneys consistent with underlying medical renal disease. There are bilateral cysts present with a large cyst on the right measuring 3.8 cm in diameter and a tiny cyst on the left measuring 13 mm in diameter. No hydronephrosis is seen. No solid lesion is seen. Color flow Doppler is noted in both kidneys. The bladder is unremarkable. What does this mean?

Welcome to health care magic.

1.The features mentioned in the report suggest there is a medical renal disease with renal failure.
2.Absence of the flow in the doppler suggest there is vascular insufficiency which needs further cross-sectional studies like CT / MRI.
3.KFT - kidney function test is needed to evaluate the parameters.
4.Few cysts are there of different size - they are non significant as no malignant features are mentioned.
5.There is no hydro-nephrosis suggestive of no obstructive features.
6.In this case needs further evaluation with nephrologist and get needful investigations done.

Good luck.
Hope i have answered your query,
