Sugar test were normal everytime and I don t have family history of diabetes or hypothyroidism. Lipid profile was also normal everytime but LDL slightly high. once it was 101 and then it was 135. ESR readings are between 20-23. Other reports were normal. After starting workout thyroid reports came normal everytime. Note: I haven t started thyroid medications till now after stopping as per ayurvedic doc s advice. Because he told me if body gets used to synthetic hormone the it will lose the ability to produce on its own and I will require to take the medications forever. Following are my questions: 1. What are the complications of hypothyroidism. 2. Does it worsen over time 3. How likely am I of getting diabetes knowing the fact that I do not have a family history of either of my parent. 4. I will get married in 2 months. Will it affect my fertility. 5. I work out regularly since 1.5 years but I am unable to gain muscle mass. I have a lean posture. is it directly related to hypothyroidism. What should I do to gain muscle mass. 6. How does hypothyroid affect metabolism. explain in detail. 7. Doctor said my TSH readings are not very high. Does is mean I have a milder hypothyroidism. 8. My readings are normal since 1 year without medications. Dose it mean that my condition is about to cure. Dear doctor, I request you to answer in detail.

Hi,

Complications of untreated hypothyroidism include goiter swelling in the neck which occurs due to constant stimulation of the thyroid gland, peripheral neuropathy, infertility and heart problems. If untreated, the condition will worsen over time. The body cannot produce thyroid hormones and should be supplemented from outside.

Though there is a risk of diabetes to the child when both parents are diabetic,it is not a guarantee that you will get diabetes. Follow nutritious diet, regular exercise. Monitor blood sugar every 3 months. Hypothyroidism reduces the body metabolism and causes weight gain. The lean stature may not be related to the disease.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
