I have a 12year old son that went in for a sports physical and a murmur was detected, which he had it when he was little but thought he would grow out of it. Well this Dr. heard it and because his mother (me) has had 2 open heart surgeries at 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 he wanted an echo. We have the results, but the Dr. is out until Tuesday. this is what the reoprt stated. MILD LEFT ATRIAL ENLARGEMANT MILD SEPTIAL WALL HYPERTROPHY AROTIC LEAFLET TIPS SLIGHTLY THICK INCREASED TRICUSPID VALVE VELOCITY INCREASED AROTIC VALVE VELOCITY his blood pressure is normal and no other obvious signs. Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
There is a cardiac anomaly in your son.
The is enlargement of left atrium- this is the chamber which received blood from lungs and further blood goes to the left ventricle via mitral valve.
Along with enlargement of left atrium there is increased thickness of the inter-ventricular septum- this is the septum which separates the left and right side of heart.
From the left ventricle, blood enters the aorta and then to entire body.
The blood flow from left ventricle is guarded by an aortic valve.
Thus, there is thickness of aortic valve.
Enlargement of left atrium, increased thickness of inter-ventricular septum and increased thickness of aortic valve can lead to clot formation in left atrium, conduction defects and abnormal blood flow across the aortic valve.
Initially conservative measures will be given which includes drugs to improve conduction and prevent clot formation.
Consult your cardiologist for further management.

Thanks and take care
