What Does The Following Blood Test Reports Of A Child Indicate?

Why would my 9 year old son have WBC of 2.6 to 3.4 with platelets test in a four day span of 141 to 148? Also his monocytes are 636 and our lab range at the hospital uses 20-200 for normal range. He has had a fever for 12 days between 99.6 and 102.5, sometimes spiking to 103.8.... we have tested for mono, strep, flu, pneumonia and have done 3 different blood test. All which are normal, other than WBC, platelets and monocytes.. after our last E.R. Visit, due to him having sever pain in both of his lower legs in the calve muscles, they gave me a discharge paper with info on leukopenia and told me to have his blood tested Friday and again Monday. I m not sure what to push for as far as further testing and what tests etc.. he is always getting sick and missing school but gets maybe two or three weeks of not being sick and then boom sick again with streptococcus or viral ... any advice? Thank you in advance

Hi,

In viral fever present like monocytosis with leukopenia.

Other possibilities like brucellosis or tuberculosis or listeria infection or parasite infections etc.

Give him rest and plenty of oral fluids. Symptomatic treatment with Paracetamol and antibiotics may be needed.

Please consult your pediatrician with repeat results he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
