Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI, my 89 year old father had an Xray recently that showed, incidentally, a superior mediastinal lesion leftward with displacement of the trachea from left to right which might be a substernal thyroid or other.... He s had difficulty recently swallowing but has found workarounds. OK to wait and see?
Your father must be immediately evaluated with cervical+thoracic CT along with physical examination (for lymphomegaly, asymmetry, Ortner syndrome etc.) and complete blood count+acute phase reactans (CRP, sedimentation, fibrinogen etc.); because mediastinal masses causing tracheal deviation may be malignant. An appointment with thoracic surgeon must be made with haste for differentiating diagnosis.
May you recover soon
