What Does The Chest Scan Showing Patch / Shadow Between The Lungs Indicate?
My father's chest scan showed a small patch / shadow between the lungs . There was a little blood in his sputum . The X ray showed nothing . Early diagnosis is Pneumonia but he has been asked to undergo a bronchoscopy tomorrow . I'm really worried . Can this be a tumor ? There are no other symptoms .
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your father's situation and problem. Yes, this can be tumour. Hemoptysis (blood in sputum) in old age is commonly due to either pneumonia or lung cancer. And his CT scan is also showing shadow. So if he is smoker than possibility of malignant lesion is more. Since he is having central lesion, bronchoscopic evaluation, BAL (bronchoalveolar lavage) and biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis. So bronchoscopy is must in his case to confirm the diagnosis. Hope I have solved your query. Wishing good health to your father. Thanks.
