What Does The Below MRI Findings Suggest?

Can you explain what a small nonretracted tear of the proximal Achilles tendon superimposed upon diffuse tendinosis MRI finding means? MRI also reads: There is abnormal signal and fusiform hypertrophy of the Achilles tendon consistent with mucoid and hypoxic degeneration. In the proximal third of the posteromedial quadrant of the tendon, there is a transversely oriented partial-thickness tear which measures 4mm in depth

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Achilles tendon is strong tendon present on the posterior aspect of ankle joint.
The MRI report reveals a tear in the upper part of Achilles tendon.
Along with tear, the tendon shows features of inflammation also.
Inflammation is accompanied by degenerative changes in the tendon.
To put it short the tendon is torn, inflamed and has undergone degenerative change.
Tendons and ligaments are slow to heal thus, rest, pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs are required to provide relief.
Thus, consult your orthopedician with the MRI report for prescription of medication and further management.
