My PSA was taken last week with a readings of 9.11, last year the readings was1.3. I would like to know is there any organ close enough to be effected by the prostrate. I have an appointment on Tus. for a check up, and is this common for the prostate to increase this amount in one year

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
PSA 9.11 should be concerned.
It could be due to prostate enlargement, prostatitis, and prostate cancer.
PSA is specific for the prostate. No any other oragam affcet it.
Sexual activity before tests may cause increase value.
So ensure that you have not given blood just after sexual intercourse/ejacualtion.
I would suggest to consult the urologist and undergo free PSA to PSA ratio, digital rectal examination and USG scan to rule out the prostate problem.
Treatment will depend on the cause.
Tamsulosin will help in symptoms of prostate enlargement.
Hope this may help you
