recent brain mri with and without contrast shows, occasional scattered punctate T2 hyperintisities in the central white matter with a signal 3x7 mm high signal abnormality in the left posterior frontal subcortical region. What could this be? was diagnosed with MS 9 years ago.
Hello. I read that MRI report carefully and I thank you for considering HCM for more information. Since you have been diagnosed with MS then I suppose it is the case of a chronic disease, which modern medicine can slow down but cannot cure. So since white matter lesions are the main characteristic of the disease those white matter hyper-signals are to be expected in some who suffers from this disease. So in that sense that MRI report doesn't give much new information because I as a neurologist already know some hyper-signals are bound to be found in a MS patient. What would have been more useful would have been a comparison with your last MRI to see how much the load of lesions has progressed and also the results of contrast MRI because if some lesions increase after the administration of contrast that indicates that those are new active lesions instead of simply the old ones. Also it would be of interest to know whether there is brain atrophy on MRI. Perhaps a contrast exam has been performed so discuss with your doctor about that as well as about the comparison with past MRIs. Feel free to ask further questions.
