Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My left big toe has been sore for about two months now. The last few days it is red and throbbing in pain. It is slightly swollen to the right of the toe joint or knuckle on a finger. Their is a small spot to the right of the nail. I had the PA in my GP s office look at the spot and she thought it was a planters wart and told me to use Compound W on it. I used the corn pads twice and an area of skin fell off. Since then, it has become very painfully. What could be happening and what should I do to relieve the pain. It is difficult to wear shoes and at times walk.
Since you say the left big toe is painful and swollen, very possibly, it is having inflammation. You should rest your feet, dress toe daily with 5% Betadine sol, and take an antibiotic. If your renal functions are normal, the Tab Augumentin 625 mg 8 hourly for 5 to 7 days would be required to control the infection. Please get your serum uric acid level checked to rule out Gouty arthritis.
