What Does Swelling In The Vagina Indicate?

Hi doctor! I am 42 years old, I observed a swelling on my left vagina lip in 2003. I was not feeling any pain so I didn't attend to it. On May 26 2017, I was diagnosed of bartholin cyst. I do have slight pain once in a while. Is there anything I can do ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,my name is dr,Dorina Gurabardhi.I understand your concern.
Some Bartholin gland cysts go away without treatment.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
-take a nonprescription pain medicine such as ibuprofen to relieve pain
-soak the area in a shallow, warm bath, or a sitz bath.
-You may also need to take antibiotics to treat the infection.
-a drainage maybe is needed
-If the cyst is infected, it may break open and start to heal on its own after 3 to 4 days.
Hope my answer was helpful,if you have any other question I will be glad to answer, thanks!
