General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Occasionally an infection will occur in an arm or hand after a surgery when the person has had multiple IVs in place. The other problem besides infection could be a blood clot in the arm. Don't panic, both of these conditions can be treated. The ER is the best place to deal with this so hopefully they will find the cause and treat it immediately.
