What Does Swelling In The Armpit Indicate?

Noticed swollen area in armpit when checking my breasts. There is a stinging pain on armpit side of breast when I use finger tips to check the area. There is dull pain even when not pressing on the area. No problems when raising arm or rotating it. What could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
The swelling in the axilla is swollen /enlarged axillary lymph node ... gets enlaeged when there is some infection, inflammation in the drainage area of the node(breasts, hands, back ) or benign /malignant growth in breast.
malignant growth is not painful . Still it becomes important to get it excluded&fond exact cause followed by specific treatment.
Consult a surgeon &get relevant advised investigations including mammogram. to find the exact cause &suitable treatment.
Thanks.
