What Does Spina Bifida In Fetus During Pregnancy Indicate?

Hi my daughter had her 20 + week scan today and was informed her baby has Spina Bifida, she has to wait a week before she has to go for more tests, what can she expect to happen next,? she was in shock and didn t really ask any questions. I would be grateful for any information you have. Regards Janice

I understand your concerns.
Spina bifida is an abnormality of the spinal cord which occurs during development. This defect can be corrected. In some hospitals, it can be corrected while the baby is still inside the womb but most often surgical correction is after delivery.
I think she should ask her attending physician about the severity of the condition and what can be done to solve the problem.
