What Does Soreness In The Jaw Indicate?

My daughter who is away at college woke up yesterday with her jaw being so sore on both sides, that it was hard to eat. She thought it would be better today, but it s still bad along with a headache that hurts more when she presses on her temples. She says she didn t fall or hit her head at all. She has been diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia, and takes florineff and Ritalin daily to help with low blood pressure and fatigue. She has suffered for years with migraines, but says this is different, and she felt odd all day.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hope she is better now,
May be her wisdom teeth are erupting.
You should visit a dentist and get her X-rays done.
Also, it might be due to some stress causing myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome.
Is this occurring in the morning only? or while opening her jaws or while eating?
Complete history and X-rays are required for proper answer,
So am not sure.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

I find this answer helpful
