Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Sharp Pain Under The Rib Cage On The Left Side Indicate?
I am having sharp pain under my rib cage on the left side mainly when I lie down. I have been dealing with extreme gas/indigestion for about 2/1/2 weeks. This is the first time in my life that I have experienced these symptoms--Prilosec, Gas X, etc. have not brought relief. Is there anything I can take that will help me get rid of this? I am scheduled for an Upper Endoscopy next week.
You are suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease which is causing the pain in your left side especially when you lie down. I would advise you to take syrup sucralfate twice daily for relief. Avoid oily and spicy food. Don't eat anything two hours before you go to sleep. While lying down prop up your head with two pillows which will prevent the acid reflux. Drink lots of water. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regard, Dr. Nazma.amman
