What Does Sharp Pain Under The Left Shoulder Blade Indicate?

I am 65, getting ready for work I had a sudden sharp pain under my left shoulder blade, I felt it up through the back of my neck. It immediately lessened. Now it is noticeable, but not severe. When I move my arm or stretch it is still tender, or when I take a deep breath, I feel minor pain under the shoulder blade .

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It sounds like you may have a nerve irritation from a muscle spasm or other problem with your shoulder blade. A physical therapist may be helpful. Also try warm soaks in a tub and gentle stretches. If you notice that this pain comes on when you exercise, then it could have something to do with your heart and you should see a doctor immediately. If you develop fever or become short of breath, also see a doctor immediately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
