What Does 'shadow' On Chest X-ray Requiring CT Scan Indicate?
I have recently had a chest xray following being rather breathless over the last few months. I have now been asked to go for a ct scan as the xray showed a shadow that the gp wants to look at further. I am going out of mind with worry - assuming the worst! Does this necessarily indicate anything serious, or could there be a harmless reason for this 'shadow'? Many thanks.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Honestly speaking, possibility of some serious lung disease is more in your case. Your symptoms (breathlessness) has worsen. So shadow on chest x ray can be due to pneumonia or lung cancer. So CT scan is needed to confirm the diagnosis. If you are smoker, possibility of lung cancer is more likely. Better to consult pulmonologist for this. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
