Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Severe Pain On The Right Side Of The Abdomen Indicate?
I have infrequent digestive attacks which present as acute pain in mid to right side of abdomen radiating to the back and chest...These episodes can be as infrequent a every six months to once a year....They resolve after I have practically devoured a bottle of tums and some nexium...I am reading that this could be a gallbladder problem..What foods should I avoid.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Food to be avoided while on gallbladder problems are fat food. Fat food causes the gallbladder to contract and cause pain. Try to avoid fried food as well. To make sure it is the gallbladder the cause of your pains you will need to talk to your doctor and have an abdominal ultrasound which will identify if there are stones in it or other problems. It is best to have the ultrasound while you are fasting (at least 8 hours without food, during this time you can drink water only) for better visualization.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
