What Does Severe Pain In The Right Eye Indicate?

Hi My 13 yr old has has 3 different virus illnesses since December. For the last 10 days he has had severe pain in his right eye which has made him cry. It was partly resolved with paracetamol. He has improved over the weekend and has not had any severe pain. He has been given a steroid nasal spray for sinusitis, which he has been using for 6 days. His blood results from Friday show a slightly raised WBC [11,000], raised CRP, ESR and platelets. Doctor was concerned but as he had shown some improvement was hopeful it was all virus related. If not completely recovered to recheck his bloods in a week. I will keep a close eye on him. But obviously concerned.

Hello,

Eye need to be examined by an eye doctor. Fundus examination and field tracing need to be done.

Steroid spray should be avoided, since it will cause masking of symptoms and cause severe side effect blood report shows leucocytosis which indicate mild inflammatory condition which may be contributory it may not be virus related since that is self-limiting.

Paracetamol drug can be given for pain. It is not related to sinusitis. You can take x-ray PNS and if indications of sinusitis, then antrum wash out can be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
