What does severe cramps in the lower abdomen indicate?

Very suddenly I started having severe lower abdominal cramps for a couple of hours. Then I started having really bad diarrhea followed by severe cramps which lasted through out the night. It all started about 9:30 pm and lasted until about 4:00am. I was finally able to get out of bed at 10:00, with another round of severe cramps followed by really bad diarrhea. Now my stomach is bubbling and I have no fever. Are these symptoms of stomach flu or stomach bug? I haven t taken any med for this. Drinking a sprite now

It could be either a stomach virus or some food poisoning. Both of these often resolve without treatment in one to two days. If you were to develop fever, blood in your stool or severe vomiting, then you should see a doctor immediately. It is important to stay hydrated, so drink plenty of fluids and avoid caffeine. If you are not better in a few days or if you get worse in any way, see a doctor in person.
