What Does "Both Foetal Kidneys Shows Pelvi Calyceal Ectasia" Mean?

Hello,

I'm 26 yr old, having 22nd week of my pregnancy. Today I went to my doctor and she asked me for a antenatal scan. In scan report there was two lines which makes a lot of confusion for me, and I want to know how much serious is that issue.

Result shows,
1) Both foetal kidneys shows pelvi calyceal ectasia
2) Foetal urinary bladder partially distended

Even though my doctor says its a very small issue and there is nothing to worry,I'm really worried about this. Please guide me.

Regards,
Anu

Hi Anu,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Pelvicalyceal ectasia means dilatation of the renal pelvis and calyx. Mild dilatation is normal.
2. The bladder is partially distended. At this age it is normal
3. Both of them will improve as the weeks progress. These are normal findings. These are not major anomalies, nothing to worry.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
