What Does Purple Discoloration On The Upper Eyelid Indicate?

I have always had persistent dark circles under my eyes -but now notice a reddish/purple hue on my upper lids too. I am 49 years old - spend a great deal of time in the sun - am dedicated to sunscreen use - I began to use Sustayn thera tears to help with red/dry eyes about two months ago. I use night creams, and eye creams promising to lighten dark circles and lesson wrinkles...I know not likely, but in our very dry climate whatever I can do.... What is your advice regarding the dark circles on the upper lids and under my eyes. Thank you for your help.

Hello,

First of all, the overuse of cosmetic material is usually not advisable. Second thing redness is on the eyelids or in the eye (conjunctiva). Both of these are different. Overexposure of sun does blackening of the skin.

If it is on eyelids, I advise you to use cosmetics less frequently. Just wash your eyes with cold water frequently. If it's in the eye, it may be conjunctivitis which requires proper antibiotics treatment like ciprofloxacin eye drops (frequency according to the severity). Better to consult an ophthalmologist for this.
