What Does Pain In The Lower Back Indicate?

Male age 61 experiencing pain in the lower back - to the left of tail bone. Left leg calf is numb as well as the little toe. Also a type of sensation or feeling of a spot on the bottom of the foot. Over the counter pain meds don t seem to help much. Does this sound like nerve damage? Poor circulation?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking. I understand your concern.
Your symptoms suggest compression of nerve suplying at affected area... in lumber spine (spondylitis or disc problem ).
You need x ray,MRI to pin point the cause &grade of nerve affection . This would decide the line of treatment ( anti inflammatory drugs with vitamin B12/nerve pain medication/steroid injectionat site of spinal problem /physiotherapy/suegery.)
Please consult a spinal surgeon for specific advise.
Thanks
