What Does Pain In The Lower Abdomen On The Left Side Indicate?

I m trying to decide if I need to go to the ER....Earlier today, I started with a pain in my left side, not bad, just uncomfortable. Then it moved to my lower abdomen in the center and it s more severe but comes and goes. At its worst, it nearly doubles me over. I m experiencing chills and I know I have a fever, but have no way to check it at the moment. I ve also been very nauseous, but not to the point of vomiting. What are your thoughts? I do not have a regular doctor I can call.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you are describing that is a pain in the left lower abdomen along with nausea, fever and chills point towards a diagnosis of diverticulitis. It diagnoses by a physician on physical examination and history. If confirmed you will be prescribe an antibiotic course and painkillers. Surgery advised in severe cases. Meanwhile, you can use a heating pad to relieve the pain and take over the counter painkiller like Tylenol. Other common cause s of lower abdominal pain are peptic ulcer, the renal stone which has to be ruled out before deciding treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
