What Does Pain In The Chest Indicate?

I keep experiencing mild, but still discomforting pain right in the center of my chest. it doesn t seem to be triggered by anything in particular, I ll just periodically experience a wave of pain that last for a few seconds and then it subsides. I felt it a little but more this afternoon while I was eating though. It feels like it my be coming from my sternum, closer to the solar plexus area. I do not have any other symptoms.

hi sir/mam, it would have been better if you had mentioned your age.let me mention below the possible causes based on age :
1)in young males, such pain is usually due to muscle spasms and is self limitting.
2)in middle to older aged individuals, the causes are
a)gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)
b)any trauma to bony structures
c)any cardiac related causes like angina
3)in females, we need to think of any breast causes also like lumps.
any way,to those patients, who come to my clinic with similar symptoms, i instruct them as follows :
1)individuals above 40yrs: ECG,2D ECHO,chest x-ray
2)young individuals without other symptoms like shortness of breath,palpitations etc, analgesic course(ibuprofen or aceclofenac), twice daily for 3-4 days along with tab.patoprazole once daily before food is advised.
