What Does Pain From The Ear To The Eye On The Left Side Indicate?

I am having left sided ear pain that goes up through my eye and to the top of my head. It started last year in March and was occurring 1-2 times per month. It is now coming on more than that. What could be causing this? It does go away within a couple hours usually with 2 Alleve and an Allegra.
