What Does Negative Leukocyte Esterase In A Urinalysis Report Mean?

If I have a negative LEUKOCYTE ESTERASE on my urinalysis does that mean there s a good chance of no sti? What is the percentage? I don t have any pain in testicles, uretha. I did a painful urethra swab sti exam so just waiting on results. Not sure that was necessary. Thanks for your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Leukocyte esterase is a type of enzyme produced by leukocytes (white blood cells).
A leukocyte esterase test (LE test) is a urine test for the presence of white blood cells and other abnormalities associated with infection. If it is negative, result is normal, indicating that there is no infection. However, it does not rule out sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
STIs can be only ruled out through urine culture or urethral swab culture and certain blood investigations.
Kindly wait for urethral swab culture report to know what could be the status.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
