What Does Negative TMT Report Mean?

Hi,

I am 43 Yrs, LDL - 163/ HDL - 62, No Sugar, No Triglyceride, Slim, smoker. TMT report says positive, however one cardiologist looked at the graph saying the abnormality of curve did not susain more than 6 seconds and hence TMT is negative.

What does this mean?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
TMT stands for treadmill test.
In TMT, stress induced ischemia to the cardiac muscles are assessed.
The cardiac muscles may not be compromised during rest.
However, in stress situation or high activity situations, the blood supply to cardiac muscles may be compromised.
A TMT test positive means that blood supply to the cardiac muscles is compromised.
In your case the TMT is positive however, for short period of time i.e. less than 6 seconds.
TMT positive for just 6 seconds will not cause any significant compromise and no medication is required at this point of time.
However, you need to repeat the TMT test after some time (six months) to assess the situation again.
Stress has to be avoided.

Your lipid profile shows that HDL levels are normal, however, LDL is slightly raised.
LDL levels should be below 100 mg/dl.

Thanks and take care
